Shaping the Future of Dairy: URUS and Dairy Challenge

By Joselyn Hurlburt

Talent Acquisition Coordinator

The URUS Family has proudly supported Dairy Challenge since its founding in 2002. Our participation in Dairy Challenge is a great way to interact with upcoming talent as many of these students will either become (if not already) interns for the summer, participate in our URUS Dairy Consulting Experience, or be even full-time employees upon graduation, broadening our talent pipeline.

What is Dairy Challenge you may ask?

The North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge (NAIDC) is an event that is focused on tomorrow’s dairy and agricultural leaders. Dairy Challenge is a unique three-day competition among teams representing North American universities’ dairy science and agriculture programs. This challenge incorporates all facets of a working dairy business in a forum that’s very interactive and educational for these students to grow skill sets in reproduction, nutrition, herd health, business management, teamwork, and more.

Across the United States, there are four regional contests and one national contest. At Nationals, 50+ schools and over 340 students across the United States and Canada participate in this event. As a sponsor of Dairy Challenge, many of our employees have the opportunity to either be a judge, mentor students, or volunteer in a different capacity. Over the course of these events, we will have approximately 20-30 employees volunteer as mentors and judges from URUS and the Brands in our family, such as AgSource, Alta Genetics, GENEX, PEAK, TOG, and VAS.

URUS and our Brands are proud to sponsor this incredible event, which helps build the dairy industry’s future by providing hands-on experience, practical problem-solving skills, and continued networking opportunities. Investing in the next generation today is key to ensuring a sustainable and thriving future for tomorrow!
