URUS Global Development is focused on supporting the growth of emerging markets for cattle genetics. Por leveraging funding from the US government grants and foundations, they support commercial sales growth around the world.
The Emerging Markets Program (EMP) grant, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has been implemented by GENEX for more than 15 years. The program’s goal is to increase exports of US cattle genetics by conducting targeted market assessments and technical assistance in new and expanding markets.
In 2024, these grants supported 11 international training programs, including both in-country and US-based programming. These range from conference seminars to targeted on-farm consultation, and genetics consultancy training for wholesale distributor staff. Overall, programing reached more than 400 people and contributed to over $1 million of sales.
In Egypt, both GENEX and Alta conducted training programs in the country neither sales organization had traveled to in more than 5 years. Similarly, in Vietnam, GENEX coordinated grant-funded seminars, which resulted in new business leads, which increased sales by 300% year over year. In South America, farmers and distributors learned about the key benefits of US beef genetics resulting in sales to Paraguay from both the US and Brazil. Through these programs and more, the grant activities improved performance in markets with growing sales channels.
Also among the successes is the collaboration among URUS entities, including training implementation by GENEX and Alta Genetics and leveraging expertise from team members from PEAK and SCCL at events. Programming targets farmers, distributors, milk processors, and local influencers to increase knowledge of genetic selection and improve cattle reproduction.
Ultimately, the impact of these programs is recognized not only internally but also with granting agencies and strategic partners around the world. Currently, URUS Global Development manages a $15 million grant portfolio supporting international market growth.
