Within the United States, there are 35,000 to 62,000 injuries per year due to forklift accidents, including 87 deaths per year (2023). One of the most common locations for serious forklift injuries or fatalities is at the loading dock when a trailer that is being loaded leaves the dock unexpectedly. This can be from trailer creep, early departure, trailer pop-up, or the front trailer landing gear malfunctioning.
Dock locks solve these issues by establishing a physical connection between the building and the ICC bar on a trailer. They also provide a visual cue for forklift operators inside the building and truck drivers outside of the building to ensure miscommunication doesn’t occur and everyone knows that the trailer is properly secured for loading.
Our distribution center in Shawano recently installed a dock lock on a routinely used dock to help prevent these types of incidents. This was a great investment and win for the safety of our forklift operators.
